How to Release a Hold placed on a Customer’s Credit Card

If you place a hold on a Customer’s credit card (aka pre-authorizing a card) and decide not to charge them, Stripe will eventually release the hold after 7 days.

You can release the hold manually by:

  1. Go to Payments -> Charge Customers
  2. Choose the Date of the Customer’s Booking
  3. Find the Stripe ID related to the Hold on the card (i.e. ‘ch_xxxxxxxxxxx’)
  4. Paste that Stripe ID into the ‘Stripe Transaction ID’ field at the top-right of the page
  5. Click Refund

​The hold on the card will now be released.
